Steeped in Sri Lanka: A web documentary

From December 2016-March 2017, I co-produced an interactive website featuring multimedia stories from two villages in Sri Lanka. 'Steeped' came about as a project to showcase community, culture, family and tradition and provide a glimpse into a way of life. The theme at the center of our exploration was ‘Transition’, observing a country at the precipice of recovery from a 30-year civil war. The project involved a 2-week trip to Sri Lanka and an extensive exhibit with iPads, computers, image galleries and an event hosting the team and members of the community. Links to behind-the-scenes videos are below.

In addition to the website, our team wanted to explore how the virtual creation of space could mirror a physical one. The question we were attempting to answer was whether we could draw people into the experience of Sri Lanka by transforming a designated area of Allen Hall, the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Oregon. The video on the left shows a behind-the-scenes look into this exploration.
