NASA/NOAA Data Storytelling Workshop

Our team collaborated on a NOAA [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration]-funded Co-Creating Climate Futures workshop which took place immediately prior to the 2023 Gordon Research Conference on Visualization in Science and Education. With the goal of exploring and improving how we design educational experiences around climate narratives using data, the workshop focused on inspiration, innovation, and improving our practice as a community of data storytellers.

Hands-on sessions addressed speculative climates, storytelling, place-making, and co-creation, with additional sessions in which select workshop participants presented works-in-progress to seek constructive feedback from workshop leaders, mentors, and participants.

The workshop was hosted by the MIT Media Lab in Boston, and ran from July 14–16.
